favorite ideas from summer reads

UPDATE THIS: SHORTEN:

GOAL IS INCLUDE AT LEAST 1 IDEA FROM ALL TOP CONTENT (sam altman podcast, ceo of duolingo, deepmind, culture book 1, culture 2, ambition book, even prosperity consciousness)

written in haste at the intuitive drive to write more than i have time to share. while i marvel at the idea of continous summaries, this is an experiment to combine favorite takeaways from different content this summer in one place, doubling as a list of favorite content.

1. practice with process > evaluating single moments of performance

“there’s this notion of ‘you gotta keep on training,’” tom explained. “you can have a bad race, but you still have to put in your 70 miles every week.”

i appreciate the founder's mindset coming from long distance running where focusing on intentional inputs is better than getting too lost in the output.

results are important, but not at the cost of consistently showing up. they also have a learning culture, where everything is something that can be picked up and it is best picked up from the best in the world.

2. to create a body of meaingful work, be intentional like an artist making a portfolio

“there was something beautiful in the way that steve thought, perceived things, and saw the world. there was such intention and rigor in this thinking. his curiosity and inquisitiveness was not passive, it was feriosuss, restless, and intentional... he used this for hard decision making with a 2x2 matrix to simplify apple's product line. it was about saying no to great ideas to keep focus."

there are different places that mention steve job's ability to focus on the things that matter to create a strong vision. i liked that jony + laurene chimed in to share that it also includes saying no to great ideas. being able to have clarity and resolve in what would work made him a great decision maker.

they also mentioned it was partly informed by who he surrounded himself with. by hanging out with artists, musicians, and designers, he saw technology in a different way than his team around him.

3. always be learning to update personal beliefs
