the difference between coaching + therapy

02.09.22

enjoyed when doing diligence on a relationship coach from a personal introduction.

i found this on a coaching blog and really appreciated the clarity on the differences:

with therapy, you need healing with coaching, you are whole and only need clarity

therapy focuses on feelings and past events coaching focuses on action and the future

therapy focuses on the root of the problem coaching focuses on solving those problems

therapy focuses on letting go of old patterns coaching focuses on making healthier and more effective choices

adapted from hayden & whitworth, 1995

i have found myself more connected with working with different coaches with better results personally than the work i have done with therapists.

as i continue my personal ambitious path, i'm curious to see what support both play in my future in understanding myself and helping build a thrive state.
